About this caliber
22 Creedmoor
22 Creedmoor is a fast .22-caliber centerfire cartridge based on the 6.5 Creedmoor case necked down, used for varmint hunting and long-range target shooting. It was formally standardized relatively recently.
Commonly used for
22 Creedmoor drives small-diameter, high-velocity .224 bullets, giving a flat trajectory well suited to varmint and predator shooting and to long-range target work. It existed as a wildcat before being formally standardized in the 2020s, so factory ammunition is comparatively newer and less widely stocked than long-established cartridges. High velocity can mean faster barrel wear than slower cartridges. It suits varmint hunters and long-range target shooters who want a flat-shooting .22 centerfire and can accept a newer ammunition supply.
